Summary of Duties: 

Develops and improves manufacturing process, quality plans, tooling, and all documentation for new and existing parts to achieve maximum utilization and efficiency of human, material, and machine assets.  Assist with ongoing automation directives and facility process flow.  Considers the safety of personnel, equipment, machinery, and the facility.  Address and solve manufacturing problems regarding continuous, on-going improvement of process and methods to increase productivity and quality while reducing cost.  Work assignments are of moderate variety and complexity with access to technical guidance of more experienced staff and direct supervision.

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Essential Duties:

  • Design and implement fixtures used in both manufacturing and gauging of production parts
  • Maintain engineering paperwork, records, documents, drawing, etc. completely and accurately.
  • Evaluate and solve production problems related to mechanized equipment, including troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining manufacturing equipment.
  • Participate on and lead cross functional teams
  • Address and solve safety issues with engineering solutions
  • Lead / participate in corrective actions throughout the facility
  • Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned

SKILLS and Abilities:

  • Blueprint reading and understanding tolerancing including GD&T is a must
  • Machining knowledge and trouble shooting
  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control charts
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of MRP and material flow
  • Strong math skill
  • Organization and punctuality to meet project deadline is a must; self-motivated
  • Be proficient with CAD software such as Inventor and AutoCAD

Education Level: 

  • Must have a High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associates or bachelor’s degree a plus

Experience: The job requires 3+ years of work experience as a high-level machine technician or machinist or has specialized training in the precision metal turning industry.

Physical Demands: Generally works in an office environment. However, the employee is frequently on plant floor which has moderate noise level. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 40 pounds.

Summary of Duties: Measures manufactured components to print specifications. Compiles inspection reports for customers. Inspect machining, fabricated, or assembled parts for defects, and deviations from specifications. Will use precision measuring equipment. Supports production and engineering areas. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Understand machine operations
  • Know and understand the work order process
  • Know and apply shop tolerances.
  • Set up and use control charts
  • Read blueprints and operate micrometers and gauging to inspect all parts with very tight tolerances.
  • Visually inspect moderately complex parts.
  • Perform first piece inspection layouts.
  • Use job files to pull gauging and inspect parts
  • Check in and check out gauging and micrometers
  • Operate CMM, Hommel, surface testers, optical comparators, bore gauges, indicators, hardness testers, etc.
  • Calibrate simple gages
  • Perform Incoming Inspections
  • Understand sampling plans
  • Understand the lot certification process and send documents to customers
  • Scan and control Quality documents
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules
  • Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.

Education Level: Machine tool associates program desired

Experience: Minimum 2 years Quality Control Experience.

  • Must be able to demonstrate basic math, read blueprints and operate measuring equipment
  • Effective communication skills
  • Machining background required

Physical Demands: Must be able to stand for 5 hours.  Must be able to lift 40 lbs.

Summary of Duties: The toolmaker is responsible for working closely with engineering to fabricate, modify, and assemble anything required for both new production parts and improvements on current production.  They are also responsible for supporting production with tooling and components need to meet the production schedule and eliminate down time.

Essential Duties:

  • Work and maintain a safe and positive environment
  • Fabricate/modify machine tooling from print or sketch. Exp:
  • Grind drills, mills, and reamers to specification for job
  • Tool holders, boring bars, and collets
  • Part ejectors, collet stops, and coolant fittings
  • Fabricate/modify quality gauging from print or sketch. Exp:
  • Step pins, indicator points
  • Functional gauges
  • CMM and Oasis fixtures
  • Fabricate repair and maintenance parts which are hard to find or obsolete
  • Work under engineering instruction to fabricate, assemble, and trouble shoot complex jigs and fixtures.
  • Sharpen tooling required for production.
  • Support quality and production in dimensional part verification by milling parts
  • All other duties as assigned

Education Level: Technical Diploma not required but a PLUS.

Experience: 10+ years of work experience as a machinist / tool maker.

Skills:
• Blueprint reading and understanding tolerance’s in the “tenths” including GD&T
• Strong machining knowledge
• Mechanical aptitude
• Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
• Organization and punctuality to meet project deadline is a must; self-motivated
• Must have an understanding of common tool terminology such as flute, margins, back relief, rake angle….
• Working knowledge of lathes, mills, and grinding machines.  Ability to program and operate CNC machines is a plus.
• Be able to read and interpret precision measuring equipment such as indicators, micrometer
